Callie Jay Wins Major Heidelberg University Scholarship

2013 Apr 26

Callie Jay, a senior at Girard High School, is the recipient of a major scholarship to attend Heidelberg University.

Jay, daughter of Jeff and Darice Jay of Girard, Ohio, has received the Trustees Award of $13,500 a year for four years. The award was announced following Heidelberg's annual scholarship competition in earlier this academic year.

Students who rank near the top of their high school class are invited to participate in the university's annual scholarship competition. The program recognizes students based on high school grade-point average and ACT or SAT test scores. In addition to weighing a student's academic credentials, the competition also looks at leadership skills and community service through a personal interview, a portfolio and an essay.

At Girard High School, Jay has participated in volleyball, softball, yearbook, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Teen Institute and as an Akron Children's Hospital volunteer.

Founded in 1850, Heidelberg offers 32 majors, 29 minors and nine pre-professional programs, awarding the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science and bachelor of music degrees , as well as master's degrees in education, counseling, business administration and music. Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg has been ranked for 25 consecutive years as one of the top colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.
