Deidre McVay to present research at Heidelberg University conference

2014 Feb 11

Deidre McVay of Coshocton, Ohio, is among a record number of students who will present their research Feb. 20 as part of Heidelberg University's 21st annual "Minds @ Work" Student Research Conference.

McVay, a senior majoring in Political Science, will present "How 'Special' is the Special Relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom from Post World War II to Present Day".

Heidelberg hosts the Student Research Conference annually each spring as a way to increase student interest and knowledge in academic research and scholarship. The event is designed to recognize, honor and reward academic excellence and give students an opportunity to experience the conference format of academic inquiry. Each student is paired with a faculty mentor/advisor who assists in the research and presentation preparation process.

The keynote speaker for this year's conference is Dr. Crystal B. Lake, assistant professor of English Languages & Literature at Wright State University. Based on her interest in and enthusiasm for 18th and 19th century British literature, Lake will speak on the topic, "The Scholar Adventurers in the 21st Century: new Research and Discoveries in the Humanities."

Earlier this month, 15 Heidelberg faculty members presented their own research to demonstrate the conference format and model presentation skills for students.

Founded in 1850, Heidelberg offers 32 majors, 30 minors and 10 pre-professional programs, awarding the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music degrees, as well as master's degrees in education, counseling, business administration and music. Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg has been ranked for 26 consecutive years as one of the top colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.
