2012 Nov 15

Dustin Kuess of Coldwater, Ohio, a senior majoring in accounting, is a member of the Excelsior Men's Society, one of five fraternities at Heidelberg University.

Excelsior – the oldest Greek organization on campus – was founded in 1851 by the Rev. Jeremiah Good, one of the founders of the university. For years, the Excelsior Men's Society has provided the Heidelberg campus with leadership in Greek Life, academics, athletics, and other student organizations. Excelsior prides itself on leadership as well as service to the campus and local community. Service projects include participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program, hosting the annual Animal Jam during Lil Sibs Weekend, raking leaves for the elderly and camus cleanup projects. A major event Excelsior does each holiday season is the Headstart Christmas program for the Tiffin community, providing gifts and activities for less fortunate families.

Excelsior has a strong alumni base, which creates a large social and job network to benefit the current members. Alumni create a connection that spans over every state and continent. Excelsior alumni are CEOs, judges, business owners/leaders, coaches, teachers, doctors and many more interesting career fields. Excelsior alumni also return for many campus events, such as Homecoming and Alumni Weekend.

Founded in 1850, Heidelberg offers 36 courses of study in 19 major fields of concentration, awarding the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music, as well as master's degrees in education, counseling, business administration and music. Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg has been ranked for 25 consecutive years as one of the top colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.
