Emily Jones inducted into Heidelberg University Honor Society

2014 Apr 4

Senior Emily Jones, a resident of Bellefontaine, Ohio, has been inducted into the Heidelberg University Honor Society, the university's only all-scholastic honor society.

The 2014 Honor Society class includes 36 seniors, most of whom will graduate in May. The induction ceremony was part of Heidelberg's annual Academic Excellence Recognition Dinner, held on March 23. Also honored at the dinner were students who will graduate from Heidelberg's Honors Program and those who have achieved dean's list recognition for each of their semesters.

Created in 1933 by faculty to recognize and promote scholarship in the liberal arts and modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the Honor Society is maintained by faculty and staff who are themselves members. To qualify, students must be seniors with a 3.5 or better grade-point average who rank in the top 15 percent of their class and who will have completed 60 credit hours by semester's end.

Founded in 1850, Heidelberg offers 32 majors, 30 minors and 10 pre-professional programs, awarding the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music degrees, as well as master's degrees in education, counseling, business administration and music. Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg has been ranked for 26 consecutive years as one of the top colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.
