2013 Apr 17

Woodville native Garrett McAfee has announced that he will continue his academic and athletic careers at Heidelberg University. While enrolled at Heidelberg, McAfee plans to major in early childhood education.

McAfee will join 25-year head coach Dr. Brian Haley and the soccer team in the fall of 2013.

While at Woodmore High School, McAfee was on the honor roll for four years and was academic All-Northern Buckeye Conference.

Garrett has enjoyed success in soccer for the Wildcats. McAfee was a member of the team that won the NBC in 2011 and 2012. In addition, he was twice named to the All-NBC Second Team.

McAfee is the son of Tom and Linda McAfee of Woodville.

Heidelberg advanced to the semifinals in the OAC tournament a year ago and is three seasons removed from an OAC regular season title.

Haley, who also serves as Professor of Education & History, has mentored nearly 30 student-athletes to Academic All-OAC honors.

Founded in 1850, Heidelberg offers 32 majors, 29 minors and nine pre-professional programs, awarding the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music, as well as master's degrees in education, counseling, business administration and music. Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg has been ranked for 25 consecutive years as one of the top colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.
