Leigh Barthel is founding member of new sorority at Heidelberg University

2013 Nov 21

Heidelberg University junior Leigh Barthel is a founding member of the university's newest sorority, Zeta Theta Psi.

During a signing ceremony earlier this month, Zeta Theta Psi was welcomed as a Greek society and an official student organization. Barthel, a Communication & Theatre Arts major from San Antonio, Texas, at Heidelberg, joins 13 Zeta sisters who strive to empower women, inspire confidence and encourage a well-rounded college experience.

Zeta Theta Psi officially adopted the colors of crimson and silver and the motto "We rise from the depths, immovable, an eternal knot of fire."

At Heidelberg, more than 20 percent of the student body is involved in Greek life, a gateway for leadership opportunities, scholastic support and lifelong friendships. Each of the university's 10 Greek organizations is required to perform community or campus service.

Founded in 1850, Heidelberg offers 32 majors, 30 minors and 10 pre-professional programs, awarding the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music degrees, as well as master's degrees in education, counseling, business administration and music. Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg has been ranked for 26 consecutive years as one of the top colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.
