Samuel Conde Part of Heidelberg Delegation at UN Simulation

Samuel Conde of Winter Park, Fla., is traveling to San Francisco this week to participate in the Model UN of the Far West Conference as part of Heidelberg University's delegation.

Conde, a sophomore majoring in Education and Political Science, is representing Canada.

Heidelberg has participated in the Model UN conference for about 15 years. This year, the university has the distinct honor of serving as the host institution. About 40 other colleges and universities and about 400-500 students will join HU for the Model UN. Senior political science major Ali Sayre is serving as the Secretary-General, overseeing the planning and execution of the conference.

Based around this year's theme of "The Struggle to Exist: Sustainability and Human Rights," the simulation is designed to broaden their understanding of the principles and means by which international relations are achieved and maintained. The program helps students develop a greater understanding of the nations of the world, the relations between them, their policies, and the nature of their work in the United Nations.

'Berg students spent the semester learning about the United Nations and then delved more deeply into the history and positions of one or more countries. Participation in the conference is the culmination of their classroom experience. This year, they are represent Canada, Denmark and Maldives.
