Sarah Bolen Cast In Heidelberg University Fall Musical

2012 Oct 1

Sarah Bolen of Columbus, Ohio, has been cast in Heidelberg University's fall musical, "The Drowsy Chaperone," playing at Gundlach Theatre Oct. 11-14.

Bolen, a junior majoring in music, is a member of the ensemble. "The Drowsy Chaperone" is dubbed a show within a show. It involves a middle-aged, antisocial musical theatre fan sharing with the crowd his favorite musical – "The Drowsy Chaperone." As he plays his old record, the show takes flight, encompassing love affairs, Golden Age clichés and show-stopping numbers only a 1920s production can provide, with the man sharing his personal commentary on the music, story and actors.

"The Drowsy Chaperone" debuted in 1998 in Toronto and opened on Broadway in May 2006, with additional productions in Los Angeles, New York, London and Japan. It won a Tony Award for Best Book and Best Score.

Heidelberg's production is being directed by Dr. Carol Dusdieker, assistant professor of voice, with musical direction by Dr. Paul Mayhew, assistant professor of chorus and music education. Dr. Greg Ramsdell, assistant professor of choral music education, is the piano accompanist.

Founded in 1850, Heidelberg offers 36 courses of study in 19 major fields of concentration, awarding the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music, as well as master's degrees in education, counseling, business administration and music. Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg has been ranked for 25 consecutive years as one of the top colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.
